What are the Lobby Hours for the Police Department?
Monday through Thursday: 8:00 am to 3:30 pm
Friday, Saturday & Sunday: The lobby is closed.
When the lobby is closed, officers are still available for service. During weekend hours please call: Central Dispatch at 231-832-3255 or the Evart Police Department cell phone at 231-250-2577.
How do I get a copy of a Police report?
Go to the Evart Police Department during lobby hours; fill out a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) form. The cost will be a minimum of $5.00 per report, which is due upon request. The report will be ready within 3 to 10 days, and can be picked up at the Police Department Monday through Thursday: 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.
How do I register my bicycle?
Bring your bicycle to the Evart Police Department during normal business hours; ask for a Bicycle Registration form, which is provided by the Evart Police Department. Fill out the form and when completed, the Evart Police Department staff will issue you a Bicycle License number.
Does my gun have to be inspected in order to get a Gun permit, and what is the cost?
No, your gun does not have to be inspected, and the cost of the permit is free if you reside in the City limits.
Where do I go to get a CPL (Concealed Pistol License)?
If you live in Osceola County, you need to go to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department, located at 325 W Upton Ave, Reed City, MI 49677, or call 231-832-2288 for more information. If you do not live in Osceola County, you should check with your local County Sheriff’s Department, or the Michigan State Police.
What do I do if I need a Police Officer?

What is the All Night Winter Parking Ordinance (420.02)?
All Night Winter Parking. In order to permit the City to properly remove all snow and ice from all public road ways during the winter months in the most expedient manner, no person shall park a vehicle on any street in the City, from November 1 to and including April 1, between the hours of 2:00 am and 6:00 am, and such vehicle may be impounded by the Police. This does not apply to the North side of 6th Street, between Main Street and River Street.
What time is the curfew?
It shall be unlawful for any person under the age of seventeen (17) years to loiter or remain in or upon any streets, alleys, or public places in the City of Evart between the hours of 10:00 pm and 5:00 am, of the following day on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week, and between the hours of 11:00 pm and 5:00 am, of the following day, on Friday and Saturday of each week, unless such person is accompanied by their parent, guardian, or other person having legal custody and control of such minor.
Can I ride a snowmobile or ORV in town?
Snowmobiles and off road vehicles may be operated, in the City of Evart, when traveling the most direct route to gain access to fueling, dining, lodging, or returning to their home base. All snowmobiles and off-road vehicles shall meet all safety and equipment requirements and abide by Michigan traffic law as outlined in Michigan statue. In addition, snowmobiles and off road vehicles shall meet the following conditions when being operated on a city street;
- At a speed of no more than 25 miles per hour, or less if posted.
- By a person of no less than 12 years of age. If the person is less than 16 years of age the minor must be under the direct visual supervision of an adult and have, in his or her immediate possession, a Michigan issued snowmobile or ORV safety certificate or one issued under the authority of another state or province of Canada.
- Must travel with a lighted headlight and taillight, at all times after January 1, 2010.
- All operators and passengers must wear a crash helmet and protective eyewear approved by the United States Department of Transportation.
- No snowmobile or off road vehicle shall be operated on any sidewalk or foot trail within the city limits.
- No snowmobile or off road vehicle shall be operated on Main Street from Railroad Avenue northward to 5th Street, and shall cross US-10 only at the intersections of US-10 and Lauman Road, US-10 and Oak Street, and US-10 and River Street.
- On the rails to trails, snowmobiles shall be allowed to travel at speeds not greater than 25 miles per hour. Off-road vehicles are prohibited on the rails to trails.
- No snowmobile or off road vehicle shall operate, within the City of Evart, between the hours of midnight and 6:00 am
What is Blight?
If you receive a blight notice you will have 10 days to correct the violation to avoid being cited. Listed below are several different categories of blight. Enforcement of the Cities Blight ordinance is to enhance business investments, tourism, shopping and the overall value of properties.
- Grass or weeds being more then 12 inches in length.
- The storage upon any property of junk automobiles, except in a completely enclosed building. The term “junk automobiles” shall include any motor vehicle which is inoperative for any reason for a period in excess of sixty (60) days. All vehicles must remain plated, registered and insured at all times.
- The storage upon any property of building materials unless there is a valid building permit issued by the City for construction upon said property and said building materials are intended for use in connection with such construction.
- The storage or accumulation of junk, trash, rubbish or refuse of any kind, except domestic refuse stored in such a manner as not to create a nuisance for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days. The term “Junk” shall include parts of machinery or motor vehicles, unused stoves or other appliances stored in the open, remnants of wood, metal or any other material or other castoff material of any kind whether or not the same could be put to reasonable use.
- The existence of any structure or damaged partial structure which because of fire wind or other natural disaster or physical deterioration is no longer habitable, for the purpose which it may have been intended.
- The existence of any vacant building, garage or other out building unless such buildings are kept securely locked, windows kept glued or neatly boarded up and otherwise protected to prevent entrance by vandals.
- The existence of any incomplete structures unless such structure is in the course of construction in accordance with a valid and subsisting building permit issued by the City and unless such construction is completed within a reasonable time.
